Simple Syrup (Basic Recipe)

This easy homemade simple syrup is made with equal parts sugar and water—perfect for sweetening iced tea, lemonade, coffee, and more. Ready in minutes and naturally gluten-free.

Materials

  • 1 cup cane sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water.
  • Heat over medium, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
  • Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator for up to one month.

Notes

To flavor your syrup, try adding lavender, vanilla extract, citrus zest, or a cinnamon stick while the syrup is still hot. Let steep, then strain before storing.
