Homemade Peppermint Bark
If you’re hunting for a quick, easy, and festive holiday treat, look no further—Homemade Peppermint Bark is your new best friend. With just two ingredients and about 10 minutes of hands-on time, you can whip up a delicious, budget-friendly candy that everyone adores.

Why Peppermint Bark?
This cheerful classic checks all the boxes: simple, versatile, and downright irresistible. Whether you’re partial to rich dark chocolate (hello antioxidants!) or the dreamy sweetness of white chocolate, the crunch of peppermint takes it right over the top.
And here’s a bonus worth celebrating—this treat is effortlessly gluten-free with the right chocolate, making it a wonderful option for family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, or that sweet church friend who’s always looking out for everyone.
Gluten-Free Chocolate Chips
Several brands offer gluten-free chocolate chips, and most supermarkets carry at least a couple.
Hershey’s semi-sweet chocolate chips are clearly labeled gluten-free.
Nestlé has several varieties—dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and semi-sweet morsels—that are also marked gluten-free.
As always, give labels a quick read just to confirm. Chocolate should only surprise you with deliciousness—not gluten.

Bridget’s Recipe Tips
No double boiler? No problem!
To make your own, simmer a few inches of water in a medium saucepan. Place a smaller heat-safe bowl or saucepan over the top, making sure it doesn’t touch the water. Add your chocolate chips and stir gently until smooth and melted. Works like a charm every time.

Homemade Peppermint Bark
Ingredients
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 3 candy canes, crushed or 24 hard peppermint candies, crushed
Instructions
- Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper.
- Place peppermint candies in a blender, or seal them in a Ziploc bag and crush with a rolling pin. (Great for stress relief!)
- Melt the chocolate in a double boiler over low heat, or microwave in 15-second intervals until smooth and creamy.
- Pour the melted chocolate onto the wax paper and spread to your preferred thickness.
- Sprinkle the crushed peppermint over the top, gently pressing the pieces into the chocolate with the back of a spoon.
- Let the bark cool completely until firm. Slide the pan into the fridge if you’re in a hurry.
- Once set, break into pieces and enjoy!
Notes
Stir the crushed peppermint directly into the melted chocolate before spreading for a more speckled, candy-cane-throughout texture.
