What Is Lemon Curd?

Lemon curd is a rich, tangy spread (or dessert topping) made by gently cooking lemon juice and zest with sugar, egg yolks, and butter. The result is a silky-smooth, custard-like treat with a bold lemon flavor that’s both sweet and tart.

Thanks to its creamy texture and intense citrus flavor, lemon curd makes a wonderful gluten-free filling for tarts, cakes, and pastries. It’s also delicious spread on muffins, scones, or crepes—or simply swirled into plain yogurt for a quick treat.

Why I Love Lemon Curd

This lemon curd is rich, creamy, and bursting with sweet, tangy flavor. It’s buttery smooth, naturally gluten-free, and made with just five simple ingredients. Whether you’re making a spring brunch extra special or looking for a thoughtful homemade gift, this curd is as versatile as it is delicious.

How to Store Lemon Curd

Homemade lemon curd keeps beautifully. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one month or freeze it for longer storage. (I like to freeze mine in small jars so I can thaw just what I need.)

Glass jars of lemon curd with a fresh lemon, lemon zest on a spoon, and rustic wood background—bright and gift-ready.
