Healing Gums, Sunglasses, and Judgy Dogs: My Red Light Therapy Chronicles
Why my dogs think I’ve joined a sci-fi cult — and how red-light therapy became the weirdest part of my healing.

Sunglasses, Secrecy, and Dog Judgment
It started innocently enough. A gum graft, a recovery plan, and a very thoughtful husband who brought home a shiny red light therapy device “for your gums.” According to the box, the gadget is supposed to fit inside your mouth — but I’m barely eating soft scrambled eggs over here, so no thank you. Instead, I stand in my bathroom, sunglasses on, eyes squeezed shut, holding this glowing UFO to my mouth. The bathroom door stays shut… not to protect me, but to spare my poor dogs from witnessing whatever they think is happening in there. Judging by their expressions, they’re convinced I’ve joined a strange glowing cult — or at least started broadcasting messages to Mars.
Is It Helping? Honestly… Maybe!
…At first I thought, I’ll just try it once and see if it does anything. But now, I find myself kind of looking forward to it — my 10-minute daily sci-fi retreat. I’ve even started calling it my “infrared invisibility cloak” because, let’s be honest, there’s no version of this that doesn’t make me look like I’m either hacking government satellites or auditioning for a toothpaste commercial in space.
Do I know for certain that the red light is speeding up my gum healing? No. Am I convinced I’m now some kind of futuristic dental goddess? Also no. But… the graft site is pink and healthy, my gums are looking better, and I haven’t once lit anything on fire. So I’m counting it as a win.
When the Dogs Adjust… Maybe I Do Too
My dogs still don’t know what to make of it. They sniff under the bathroom door, pacing and occasionally sighing as if to say, “She used to be normal.” But I think we’re all adjusting to the new me: part human, part cyborg, all healing.
Now they just lay by the door, waiting like “Oh great, mom’s glowing again”
It’s become a new part of the daily rhythm
Pets always adjust — they’re just wondering when you’ll start levitating
It turns out healing takes time, light, rest… and a little comic relief. Thankfully, dogs forgive fast — even if they still don’t know what to make of my sunglasses and space beam.
